Touching your chest can fuck up your shoulders if you have long arms like me. Squats are not BAD for your knees, but that doesn’t mean they are good for your knees.
Fuck this infographic.
Hi hello. You are wrong here is why:
Benching in general will wear and tear that anterior deltoid. It’s just the nature of the lift (any lift is going to cause potential wear and tear). A good way to keep the shoulders strong while getting and avoiding wear and tear is the Floor Press. You do not always have to touch your chest if you’re say, a Bodybuilder and looking to really just isolate the chest. However if you compete, like me and the people I made this for, you need to pause the weight on your chest and not be a half repping joker. If you want to prevent wear and tear, build up those delts. Make sure to prehab properly.
Long arms and can’t touch your chest? Widen your grip. Not that hard. I know people with arms longer than I am tall who do just fine and have perfectly fine shoulders. . So, you can make excuse for you, but don’t do it for others.
Second: Squats, when done properly to parallel and below are actually wonderful for your knees and surrounding cartilage and tendons. I have a few followers who had very bad knees and leg pains and were told to work on squatting and now have much stronger and relatively pain free knees.
So in summery, Don’t be no half repper but play to your ROM.
