Why? New lifting cycle begins. Only thing I’m thinking about is should I wake up at 5:30am to head to the gym before work, or go after work?…

  • Spartan Race was today! (or yesterday for those technical mofos)First, I’ve got to say this is the most fun I’ve had ALL year. Fucking amazing! To be honest, I dint train for this at all and it showed. My final time was 1:14:05. My conditioning really sucked and it showed but I definitely kept up. And best of all, my foot dint bother me once throughout running the course.
There were a lot of things that I’ve never done, like the wounds in the pictures are from climbing a rope. I’ve never done that before and it was pretty cool, I just wish they dint set up the events in the order they did for that. Right before the rope climb there was a farmers walk event, which I’m sure they did on purpose to tire out your forearms. Although I made it to the top, as soon as I hit the bell, my grip gave out and I SLID all the way down, laughing too lol.

I’m not even upset about the time, I wasn’t going for a record or anything. This wasn’t like running a half marathon either, you obviously have to stop to pull, climb, shimmy over the obstacles but I noticed a TON of people just walking from event to event. I did on occasion to catch my breath, not going to lie but I made sure to run more than I walked.
One last thing, BURPEES FUCKING SUCK. A rule when doing this race, if you fail a certain obstacle, you have to do 30 burpees. Yeah. Javelin throw, row 500m under 2 minutes (10 Fukn meters left!!) and shimmy across a wall, think like those indoor rock climbing places except you can only go left or right. Yeah, I failed only those out of 20 or 25 obstacles? So I don’t think I did too bad.

  • Let’s try this again.

Earlier today I went over my training log from last year and look at what I was doing that lead up to my injury in the gym before trying the Serge Nubret Pump training. I started last year in pretty bad shape, I had just come back from my shoulder dislocation and needless to say I was pretty scared to even TRY a pull up / let alone use my arm in any heavy deadlifts / rows.

Fast forward a couple of months after that to when I decide to dive back into training 4 days a week, feeling confident with a new goal and with a power building template which is basically 5/3/1 with assistance bodybuilding work type sets and reps. The only real reason why I even switched programs was because I felt I was on this power building template for so long, but guess what? I made the best gains, my arms were bigger, my legs were rock hard, my back was thicker and for not doing any cardio, I still had my visible six pack. I want to kick myself because looking at the dates, I was on it for around exactly 3 months, add 3 days. Now, that’s enough time to invest into a program to decide if you want to switch, but as the saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t try and fix it”. I was still getting results, so there was no need to try something new, and I can only blame myself for falling into that training ADD.

I’m writing this because for some reason, in my head at least, it makes me feel more accountable to stick to it. Which is something that I haven’t had to deal with in a LONG time and is surprising me at the moment. I’m the first one to tell you that finding that intrinsic motivation is KEY to you sticking with something as time consuming and difficult (for some) as fitness. If you’re doing this for your boyfriend/girlfriend, mother, sister, cousin, goldfish it’s very rare that you will stick to it at all. For me lately I’ve just become so unmotivated, not caring if I miss workouts or eating right that it spirals downward even more into me not feeling like doing anything. This shit ends now. I think the wake up call will definitely be this Saturday at my Spartan Race where it will totally kick my ass. Although I’m still looking forward to it.
